#InsideHBI – Welcome Bridget
Posted 18 May 2022
HBI continues to grow – Bridget Bamiro is new to the team. She adds experience from her international PR work, where she was already responsible as a content marketing and PR specialist. In this profile, Bridget introduces herself and her professional and personal background.
Name: Bridget Adekite Bamiro
In which field did you study/train?
Mass communication with specialty in Public Relations and advertising (Bachelor’s degree) and Media and communication science (Master’s Degree).
Why did you choose this field, why are you interested in it?
My awareness of the increasing impact of media and the publics of an individual or organization on the decision-making process, and the fast-rising pace at which technology is taking over the world is the reason for my interest in the science of media and communication.
Where have you worked so far and what experience have you already gained?
I worked with a tech company in Nigeria, first as a content marketing strategist intern and then as a graduate employee. I developed social media contents, and also volunteered as the public relations officer for the Nigerian Red Cross Youth Society and the Rotaract Club of Nigeria (district 9125) where I had the opportunity to conduct press conferences and writing press statements.
What’s special about your CV?
I would like to say my experience but NO, I guess it should be my academic achievements, grades, awards, and my voluntary participation.
What do you expect in the first few months at HBI?
I expect to be able to take on tasks that my team leader would feel confident enough to let me handle alone. Also, I expect to have the practical knowledge of PR that I can contribute during my class discussions.
How do you imagine your PR work to look like?
I imagine it as saving a company or individual at the verge of collapsing to being the most sought-after. I imagine having to learn a lot about the relevant and most recent topics in the areas of PR.
What do you find particularly fascinating about the technology industry?
The fact that the technology industry is one of the very few if not the only industry that stands a chance to eventually take up and improve the entire world.
Where are you from? Do you have international experience?
I am from Nigeria in West Africa, and although this is my first international working experience, I am rather vast in the international study environment, and I have quite a number of international friends.
Would you rather be in the city or the countryside?
Tricky! I would rather be in the city whilst I am still young and agile. And I would rather be in the countryside when I retire and need me a quiet place to grow old in.
What did you want to become when you were a child?
Funny how I wanted to be a broadcaster, although I am in the field, I just do not major in it. Also 20 years ago, I did not think public relations occupation was about to gain such a solid ground amongst companies as it does now.
What is your favorite Social Media Platform and why?
YouTube, and it’s because I learn 90% of everything I did not learn in school from YouTube.
How do you inform yourself about news – print or online?
Online, also from people (friends) but then I go back online to confirm.
