Name:
Luis Carlos Palomino Forero
In which field did you study/train?
I studied Political Science in Universidad Nacional de Colombia. After successfully completing this bachelor, I continued studying in Germany and did a master’s degree in Global Politics at the Georg-August Universität Göttingen.
Where have you worked so far and what experience have you already gained?
I had the chance to work as a political advisor to different political campaigns in Colombia, which gave me the opportunity to meet and work with local communities. I also worked as a teacher for continued education, with an emphasis in Reading/Writing courses. Through which I was able to not only develop my hard skills, but also improve my social soft skills.
Additionally, I have founded and directed an NGO in Germany, called Oigopaz, where we try to build bridges between German institutions willing to help with the peace process in Colombia, and the local organizations implementing said process.
What’s special about your CV?
I have worked through quite different fields through my career, but always with an emphasis on how communication can be used to shape a better future.
What do you expect in the first few months at HBI?
I am expecting to learn a lot in the first months, so I strive to accelerate my hard skills in the field of communications and PR.
How do you imagine your PR work to look like?
I imagine it as a fast-paced and always changing environment, where new challenges arrive at every turn. That can be solved through exciting and creative approaches and allow one’s own abilities to grow.
What do you find particularly fascinating about the technology industry?
I think it is fascinating that technology is shaping our society in ways we could not even imagine 20 years ago. Today technology is so versatile and helps to expand our human experience in many different ways.
Where are you from? Do you have international experience?
I am from Colombia, more specifically from Bogotá. As I studied in Göttingen I had the chance to learn and to work in an international environment. Oigopaz´s team had members from different nationalities and backgrounds, which help me to broad my perspective in different work styles.
Would you rather be in the city or the countryside?
I like being in the city, because I thrive in accelerating and changing environments. The social tapestry that builds up every city gives color to life. Nonetheless, I need times in the nature regularly to slow down and take a breath.
What did you want to become when you were a child?
I wanted to be a neuroscientist, because the brain is one of the biggest mysteries we have. I decided on political science because society is even more intriguing.
What is your favorite Social Media Platform and why?
I like Reddit the most, because it allows you to explore new topics or deepen your own interests with ease. It also has great memes.
How do you inform yourself about news – print or online?
I listen to various podcasts daily and follow a couple newspapers on a regular basis.
