#InsideHBI – Welcome Trung-Anh!

Name:
Trung-Anh Vu
Studies/Training:
I did my B.A. in English Studies at LMU Munich. I chose this course because I have always been fascinated by the English language and because it was the only good grade I got in my Abitur.
Work experience:
Apart from some social media tasks in the student council during my studies, HBI is my first real professional experience in the field of public relations. That’s why I’m even more looking forward to the varied PR work!
What surprises us most about your resume?
My teacher training course. The closer I got to the end, the more I realized that teaching just wasn’t for me. Even though I really enjoyed working with children and young people during my internships, there are just too many factors why I don’t see myself in this job in 10 years’ time.
What do you expect in your first few months at HBI?
I expect a comprehensive introduction to the public relations industry. Especially from an established agency like HBI, which has been working in this industry for a long time, I hope to learn a lot and take a lot with me.
How do you imagine the PR work will be?
In a nutshell: Varied. I’m already looking forward to working with a wide variety of clients and finding out about their various topics. I also think the fact that the results are tangible and make a difference is exciting.
Preferred Munich activity?
I love movies, so I particularly enjoy going to the cinema in Munich city centre. I went to the movies more than ten times last year, and even twice for some films. Furthermore, I mostly watch movies where I can switch off my brain and enjoy the spectacle. I’m also interested in musicals. Not the artsy musicals that win Oscars, but cheesy musicals like High School Musical, Pitch Perfect, pretty much all Disney movies, etc.
What fascinates you most about the technology industry?
I am fascinated by how quickly technology develops. It’s absolutely thrilling to think that people are still alive who personally experienced the first broadcast of colour TV. In my childhood I could only make calls and play Snake on my cell phone, nowadays, my cell phone is a powerful, tiny computer. I’m excited to see which technologies will completely change my everyday life in the future.
Most popular social media platform?
Instagram and reddit. I use one to stay in touch with my friends and generally keep up to date. The other for the latest news, gossip, and other unnecessary knowledge.
Do you prefer being in the city or in the countryside?
An absolute city person. There’s always something to do, people are diverse, everything is within reach. The calm, quiet country life is also appealing, especially for vacations – but for everyday life, I just prefer the city vibe.
What did you want to be when you were a child?
I wanted to be a journalist when I was a kid. Not the kind of journalist who reports on the world’s problems and wins Pulitzer Prizes, but rather reporters and paparazzi. The ones who stalk celebrities and uncover gossip and publish it in tabloids. I always thought that was much cooler. I was very young and fascinated by celebrities.
How do you find out about news – print or online?
Online. It’s not only more practical, but also better for evaluating news. I can easily look at several different sources at the same time to form an opinion that is as objective as possible. With print media, on the other hand, I only ever get to see one author’s point of view.
