#InsideHBI – Welcome Yannick!

#InsideHBI

Name:

Yannick Tencha

Studies/Training:

I completed my final exams at the German School in Barcelona, Spain, with a focus on languages. I then successfully completed a B.A. in Modern Chinese Studies and Political Science at the University of Trier. Afterwards, I started on the master’s degree in East Asian Politics and Society at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. After I discovered my passion for PR during an internship, I decided not to finish my studies to gain further professional experience in this field instead.

Work experience:

I had my first encounter with PR work through an internship at the German Institute in Taipei, Taiwan during my M.A. studies. After I decided not to continue my studies, I initially joined the communications department of BMW Motorcycle in Munich. Over the course of nine months, I gained a lot of practical experience in various areas, such as press relations, media relations, and event management.

What surprises us most about your resume?

My internationality and my language skills. My family members are spread all over the world, from Argentina to Israel and China. I was born in Switzerland but spent most of my childhood in Germany, France, and Spain, among other places. As part of my studies, I have also been to China and Taiwan several times. I therefore speak numerous languages, including French, Italian, and Chinese.

What do you expect in your first few months at HBI?

I expect that working at HBI will grant me comprehensive and in-depth insights into the field of public relations. I want interesting and challenging tasks that will allow me to develop both -professionally and as a person – and to get to know the company and its activities in all its facets. I also hope to make an important contribution to HBI’s well-being and growth.

How do you imagine the PR work will be?

I see PR work as a complex and long-term, but at the same time extremely exciting and varied subject area that aims at establishing and maintaining close cooperation and effective communication between the various social, economic, and political players. I am very excited about the many different tasks and duties that await me here.

Preferred Munich activity?

I love going to the English Garden in the summer to meet up with friends, enjoy the views, cool off at the Eisbach, or attend the concerts and theater performances held there. I am also an enthusiastic visitor of the many festivals that are always taking place in Munich.

What fascinates you most about the technology industry?

I find it fascinating how quickly and extensively the technological achievements of recent years have changed life around the world. Modern technology has changed the way we live, the way we get around, and the way we communicate. Without technology, life as we know it today is almost unimaginable. But very few of us know how these gadgets and machines work. That’s why I’m interested in working in this field and becoming part of this ongoing transformation process.

Are you from Munich? Are you a local or a Zuagroasta?

I am originally not from Munich, however given that several of my relatives and friends live here, I am already familiar with the city and can only say that so far, I really like it here.

Most popular social media platform?

Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn. I use the first two platforms for entertainment and to keep in touch with family and friends. I use LinkedIn to keep up to date with the professional and corporate world and to stay informed about major events in business and industry.

Do you prefer being in the city or in the countryside?

In my opinion, life in the city is simply much more varied and exciting than life in the country. I still enjoy the odd trip to the countryside, but country life is not an attractive option for me in the long term.

What did you want to be when you were a child?

I wanted to be a pilot. When I had to fly alone for the first time at the age of nine, I was so scared that my flight attendant arranged a visit to the cockpit to distract me. All those buttons, levers, and flashing lights, plus the unique view, led me to ask my dad after I arrived if I could fly straight home again. 😂

How do you find out about news – print or online?

Online. In my opinion, this is not only the more practical, but also the more sustainable option. It also gives me access to many sources at the same time, allowing me to get a better picture of the situation at hand.
